Rating distribution by department
Rating Normalisation & Analytics
Rating distributions naturally vary across managers and departments. Normalisation adjusts scores to a calibrated scale so comparisons are fair. Analytics surface where the gaps, biases, and outliers are.
- Automatic rating normalisation across manager and department groups
- Distribution analysis to surface rating inflation or compression
- Cross-cycle trend analysis per employee and team
- Exportable calibration reports for leadership and board reviews
The N-Box grid changed our promotion conversations completely. For the first time, our leadership team was looking at the same data — not arguing about whose gut feeling was right. We identified three employees for fast-track development we'd have otherwise missed.
Frequently Asked Questions
About Performance & Culture
Yes. Each review cycle can use a different template — with its own questions, rating criteria, and KPI links. You can create templates for engineering, sales, support, and management, then assign the appropriate one when launching a cycle.
No. When a cycle is configured as anonymous, reviewer identities are masked at the point of submission and are not retrievable — even by HR admins. Results are only shown once the minimum response threshold is met, preventing reverse identification from small groups.
Placement is based on two axes: Performance (derived from review scores for the current cycle) and Potential (a separate rating completed by the employee's manager). Both inputs are normalised before plotting. You can configure the grid dimensions and label each box to match your talent framework.
Normalisation adjusts individual ratings to account for differences in how strictly managers score. If one manager consistently rates their team a 4.8 while another gives 3.5 for comparable performance, normalisation brings both into a comparable calibrated range. It's most useful when comparing employees across teams for promotions or salary reviews.
Yes, and you control what they see. You can configure which parts of the results are shared with the employee — overall score, manager feedback, anonymous peer summary — and when they are released. Individual anonymous comments are shown in aggregate without attribution.
Yes. Review results can be exported and linked to compensation workflows. Employees with top ratings can be flagged for merit increases, and the N-Box grid can be used as input for promotion and bonus decisions. Full integration with the Compensation & Payroll module is available.
